Odem Arcarum - Outrageous Reverie Above The Erosion of Barren Earth There Once Was A Band That Made An Epic Album With An Epic Title. Odem Arcarum is a progressive black metal band from Germany. The band started back in 1995, but didn't release their debut full-length until 2003, 7 years later the band have finally released their sophomore record. This record is the first record to feature Ar on it as well. For the entire line-up of the group that comprise Odem Arcarum right now you have C.A. (Seal) on drums, Zahak on bass, Skoarth (Lunar Aurora, Somber Serenity) on guitars, and Ar (Secrets of The Moon, Sael, Negura Bunget) on vocals, guitar, bass, and keys. With members of some of the most well respected and forward thinking black metal groups on this album, you can guarantee that this will not be a simple, traditional black metal record. The first record by this Odem Arcarum was just that, a fairly traditional sounding black metal record with elements that made them worth looking at, such as expressive and catchy song writing. Both continue on this record, but are much more than one might have expected, if you weren't aware of the line-up. The production on here really is as close to perfect as one might expect for a black metal band. The sound is raw and allows for full-force aggression to be shown, but it is also lush and filled with texture, making allowing this record to seem much more 3 dimensional. Lush flourishes of keys flow through the background while occasionally rising up like waves, crashing over everything else, experience this near the end of Oceans. The music itself is so much more progressive than one might have thought after listening to the debut from the band. The riffs are so much more dissonant, but also melodic, progressive and catchy, so much more than one might ask for in this case. While the main core of most of the riffs are still very black metal tremolo picked, it is much more expansive sounding, used in a lot of more atmospheric ways, hear Loss, or the beautiful melodies that soar through The Body & Perpetual Imagination. The bass on the other hand, is wonderfully played, always audible and at times even played melodically or jazzy. Every track on here is like a journey, with songs ranging from just over 7 minutes to over 16 minutes in length. The epic of the album, the 16 minute Hell & Revelation, is the most captivating piece on this album, recalling elements of later period Emperor or Ihsahn's solo material. This track is absolutely breathtaking, despite it's length, it never once loses your attention, with enough going on to always keep you on your toes. Overall, this is one of the most complete records of this year. Band can sometimes spend their entire career and never achieve this sort of dynamic and unique sound, and these guys have done it on their second record. If you're a fan of progressive or experimental music, or black metal, this is a must for this year. Overall Score: 9.5 Highlights: Every Track Is A Highlight

Runic

Runic
Runic has born in Castellón (Spain). Some people have defined the style of the band as melodic and epic Death Metal; others as Viking Metal, and the rest say that Runic plays Pagan Metal... It really doesn´t matter, because Runic considers its sound as a mixture of these three varieties: The band has a strong admiration for the vikings, they think that Paganism is a need of freedom in a Christian society, and finally, their influences come from melodic Death Metal (between others...). What the band actually tries to get is the spirit that all these varieties of metal reflect... Through the ages many different sounds have represented the warrior spirit; from traditional songs to soundtrack movies, from folk to Metal... All these kinds of music influences Runic and the reflection of this feeling is what the band is really attracted to... The band started to rehearse in the middle of 2001. To date the band has put in the market its first and only recording called "Awaiting the Sound of the Unavoidable". This CD is made up by six tracks, five of them composed by Runic and the last one, "The Search" , a metal adaptation of the soundtrack movie "Conan the Barbarian" composed by the master Basil Poledouris. This song is a little tribute to this genius and his supreme composition. The CD was recorded in Rocketes studios with the sound engineer Alberto (also Templario´s guitar) in the middle of 2000. There are collaborations in the band as Fran (Templario´s voice and bass) who plays flutes, pipe and many ancient instruments...and J.V. Sirerol (chorus arrengements). This first recording has had an excellent acceptance by the people and you can get it through: Shop Circus, Repulse Records, Unholy Cross, BlackMetal.com

The band CADAVERIA was born in April 2001 when Cadaveria and Flegias, leaving Opera IX, decided to discharge their metal instincts in a new musical project. Frank and Bob immediately joined the club, respectively as guitarist and bassist, while B. Harkonnen was recruited in a second time, to engrave the sound with his keyboards. After some weeks spent in the rehearsal room to strengthen the feeling among the members, the group starded working on the compositions and now is ready to enter recording studios, where the main arrangements will be set. Discuss this

The band is Gallhammer. A female trio from Japan who I, like many people I'm sure, discovered thanks to Nocturno Culto's recent dvd. I've really liked what I've heard of them since, and despite a handful of disbelieving critics who thought it could only be a joke (Black Metal from Japan? And women?), I took them seriously. Now I'm not so sure. I decided to download the new album, which has the song "Blind My Eyes". A pretty cool song. Up until 1:31 into the song, at which point the backing vocals kick in. Psycho anime. I've tried unsuccessfully to find a free download of the full song for your viewing pleasure, but this will do in a pinch:

Formed in February of 2005, Of Raven & Ruins has established itself as one of this generations most promising metal acts. The upcoming album, Bound to Prophecy, will shape the future of melodic death metal in America for many years to come. Originally the band was a three piece set, formed by Ben Del Castillo, Derek Booth, and Neal Gist. In 2006, Tyler Gist joined as a full time keyboardist, followed by Alex Bennett and Jonathan Gossett in the following year. In March of 2007 Of Raven & Ruins recorded their demo. With this music, the band was able to carve a name for themselves in the metal scene around the world! In 2009, Bound to Prophecy will be released. Expectations are high as the band plans on making their mark in the music industry forever. Following the release in June, OR&R will be touring this summer to promote the album. Be sure to check back often for updates! Of Raven & Ruins has had the privilege of performing with the following artists: Between the Buried and Me, Dark Tranquility, Darkane, Divine Heresy, Eluveitie, Ensiferum, Firewind, Kamelot, Soilwork, 3, Turisas, Tyr, and Warbringer.

First, lets begin by you informing us the current happenings with the band. Svartsyn is rehearsing very hard at the moment with the song which will appear on our third album. Also we are moving to our own rehearsal room too. At the moment we don't know when we can begin to record, hopefully in the autumn. And I think the second album, "Bloodline," will hit the stores in autumn. We are preparing for two gigs in Germany- Berlin and Engelsdorf. The dates are not ready yet. These are some things which will come up in the near future. You're unsigned at the moment, what happened to your past label, Folter Records, who released your 'The True Legend' CD? The financial situation is the reason why we don't work with Folter Records any more. But we recently played on Folter's open air festival, "Under the Black Sun 2." It went fucking good for the fact that we haven't played live since Jan. 1998. There are not hard feelings between us and Folter. We'll see what comes. There was a few years break it seems with the band, as the last material we've been aware was written in '96, before your 2 song promo. Tell us abit about what has been going on since that time.

Abyssos was formed in January 1996 by Rehn, Meidal and Söderlund in Sundsvall, Sweden. In February 1996, Abyssos entered the Hedberska Studios to record their "Wherever the Witches Might Fly" demo, which features 3 hymns of Atmospheric, melodic and witching metal. The demo was released on the first of September and Abyssos gained a geat deal of interest from various labels. This demo has received a huge response from all over the world. Indeed, several bands, fanzines and radio stations believe that it was the best demo released in 1996 and indeed the best demo to come out of Sweden. Shortly after the release of the demo tape, the band signed a deal with London based cult label Cacophonous. In May 1997, Abyssos entered Academy studios, situated in Yorkshire (England) to record their debut album - "Together We Summon The Dark" which features 9 tracks of darkest Satanic metal and was unleashed by Cacophonous in October 1997. The album features some of the most spectacular Vampyric artwork ever to be seen in this genre. In November 1998, Rehn and Soderlund returned to British shores to record their second album for Cacophonous at Academy, entitled "Fhinsthanian Nightbreed" (unleashed In May 1999) which encompasses 9 tracks of symphonic Witching Metal in the vein of such luminaries of the genre as Emperor and Dimmu Borgir. This album also features more spectacular artwork and finished copies appear with a fold out Horror Film style booklet. Due to the exemplary nature of the album artwork, merchandise will also accompany the release.

Through The Halls Of Eternity In storm I ride Toward the shadowruins Infernally vasts Take my sight Then color my vision From an endless dripping sky Paint the visage Centuries old Of those That rode by my side The hovering steel desecrators Nearer have I never been To this that I always searched The crystal cleared opening In which I shall be gone From an endless dripping sky Cryptic visages centuries old Of those that rode by my side In storm I stand upon ruins Infernally vasts take my sight again The light is dim before me For the vision was frost Chiming bells of immortality Sings through the halls of eternity...

Soon the music became darker, faster and more extreme, influenced by 80s heavy metal, 90s progressive rock and the Norwegian black metal scene. In the Summer of 1999 the band entered D'sign Studios for their first real recording session, resulting in their first demo. In March 2000 Celebratum did their first live appearance together with Ancient and in the Autumn a second demo was recorded at Sweden's Abyss Studios. DEMONIC CHRIST CURRENT NAME Demonic Christ FORMER NAMES - ORIGIN USA STATUS Active FORMED IN - LABEL Currently unsigned GENRE Black metal STYLE - LYRICAL THEME - BAND ADDED 2003-08-17, 00:00 LAST UPDATE 2007-04-28, 02:25 Biography | Band members | Discography | Shows | Forum Band biography Demonic Christ photo Demonic Christ was formed in 1992 by Dana Duffey after the demise of the all female death / doom band Mythic. In the beginning Dana wrote all the music and lyrics for Demonic Christ using session musicians to record the first demo "Deceiving The Heavens" in 1993. (RIP Aragon Amori - you will be missed!) The tape was spread throughout the underground with the help of Osmose Productions in Europe and Wild Rags Records in the USA. Roughly 600 copies were sold. Due to the success of the demo, Demonic Christ was offered a CD deal in 1994 by Robert Deathrage of the Meatshits for his new label, Morbid Granny which was to be pressed by and exclusively distributed by Moribund Records. By this time there was a line up for the band. They entered the studio in November of 1994 and "Punishment For Ignorance" was released in May 1995. After the recording, the drummer was replaced with a much more suitable musician and the band began to take shape for live shows. Demonic Christ played venues in New York, Ohio, Illinois, North Carolina and the surrounding area. In 1995 a 2 song Promo Tape was released with he songs "Nocturnal Empire" and "Passing of the Storms", which was a vast improvement over the aforementioned CD. In January of 1996, Demonic Christ decided to expand their sound by adding a second guitarist. More shows were played and music was being written. The next release came out in June 1996 and was in the form of another 2 song promo tape including "Blut Und Ehre" and "Witches Fall", both which appeared on well known compilation CD's. "Blut Und Ehre" appeared on Dwell Record's CD "Awakening: Females in Extreme Music" released in Spring 1997. "Witches Fall" appeared on the 1996 Milwaukee Metalfest Comp CD. Soon after this release, the drummer was kicked out. As Demonic Christ began writing new material it became evident that writing styles and goals became incompatible making it impossible to continue with this line up. Dana then split away from the rest of the line up to keep the original vision of Demonic Christ. Dana then got married and had a baby, putting music aside for a while. In the beginning of 1999 Dana got an offer from Dutch label, Cryonics Records to release a second CD. This release is a collection of songs from every release by Demonic Christ. It is entitled "Demonic Battle Metal" and was released in 2000. It is very rare being that the pressing was 250 hand numbered copies. It was also pressed onto picture LP by Belgian label Painkiller Records in 2001. This is an extremely limited press of 300.

Minas Morgul @ MySpace Quote: Minas Morgul already existed in the summer of '97 as a band without a name. At that time, decided the members of two projects (Mornag / tartar) together tread the path. These included Christoph - Guitar, Matze - keyboards, Sam - guitar and Andrew - drums. Song material there was therefore already at that time. Some calendar pages later, the singer Nidhogg the Grove was looking for. In March '98, the opportunity arose to play 7 songs created for the first time live in Frankfurt's "Rockit" to. Until shortly before the performance Nidhogg's ideas have been discussed for a band name and we decided to enrich the underground metal scene with MINAS MORGUL too. This first concert was recorded in order to publish it as a demo tape with the name "First Battle" in small quantities and distribute to friends. Shortly after the debut of Minas Morgul, the band was reinforced by the bass player Tard, who completed the formation of the first time. We challenged some gigs in September '98, and took on its own on our next demo called "The Dark Age of Revelation" in the studio. Almost a year later took his keys Matze man whose plans could not be reconciled with the continuing existence of our band. Shortly afterwards, Anne took his seat at the keyboard, and also enrich us with their skill to play the flute.

Ipsum photo Ipsum was born in 1998 in Lausanne (Switzerland, Vaud) from the ashes of the black metal band Black Magic. It thus recorded with its "mark one" line-up (Sarah/guitars and bass, Sandra/synth, Chris/guitars, Greg/vocals and Seb/drums) its first album "Behind The Mask", made up of seven songs played in a rather melodic black metal style. Five hundred [500] copies were then released and distributed throughout the world by the Portuguese label Sound Riot. The Brazilian label Vampiria Records dealt with a South American distribution on tape support. The band's rough live edge was moreover strengthened by the coming of a full-time bass player (Seb) in July 2000. But line-up changed once again in January 2001 with the coming of a new drummer, Yvan (ex-Dolmen, Shreds Of Flesh, The Age Of Innocence…), to replace Seb. His technical skills and precisions allowed then the band to take a more professional turn throughout 2001.
